Holgate working mens club, men telling stories about being sent on a wild goose chase by some idiot, talking about holidays by the fruit machine, grandad and his mates chatting as they guard their dominoes, kids weaving through tables to pick up a prize from the front, a nod as two me cross paths in the corridor out of the toilets, jamie the landlords son having a laugh with some blokes by the bar, Deb and Dave telling me they dont know how much a 14 year old can drink these days as they pass me another pint.

Instead of thinking of thoughts as abstract things on another plane, I’m trying to recognise that they grow in and around people as we get on with our lives.
