Moving things from the material field
Move something
Participants take it in turn to move an object in the scene or bring an object from the material field into the scene. After a round or two of bringing objects into the scene, participants take it in turns to move and animate objects, moving them a small amount each turn. Participants encouraged to imagine how these different things might move, thinking at their scale and playing with them like a child with a small toy. Over time participants are encouraged to move more then one object per turn and to break/cut objects up into smaller parts.
Participants encouraged to consider how this material object might move in relation to bodies and energies in the space at this exact moment in the scene.
The restriction of communicating only by moving, placing and arranging things in the room, brought out these forgotten ways of playing by bringing things to life and inhabiting them. Different objects will speak to us in different ways and bring our different aspects of ourselves as we move and play as them. Losing ourselves in play combined with losing ourselves in different ways of looking and finding meanings in these compositions and constructions. What does this particular arrangement of things in relation to these characters at this moment in the scene mean to me? What does it mean to others? What are they trying to achieve with this arrangement, what are they going to do next and why? What is it they want to see?
Facilitator questions..
Which forces are acting on this object?
How might forces/energy radiating from x object affect or move y object? Show don't tell.
Possessing floating objects
Have different people represent different intentions of different things in the scene hold up an object and push it in the direction they want it to go.
E.g. A traffic cone, wants to be in the centre of the scene, but other objects don’t want it to be. Participants take on the roles of these different intentions and try to push it to where they want it to go while keeping it in the air.
